It is the other coastal hamlet and takes its name from the small church dedicated to the Saint, built between 1958 and 1961, after the destruction of the old building during the Second World War.
In the Norman era and up until 1500, the village was called Tarzanà, which is a corruption of the word ‘arsenal‘. In fact, an arsenal was located in the area, the “dockyard of Mascali”, where galleys were built.
The existence of this ancient arsenal has been confirmed by underwater research, carried out in the seabed off the coast of the locality of Sant’Anna, where the remains of an ancient port have been identified, which many believe to be the ancient pier of Tarzanà.
