It is the hamlet adjacent to the town center of Mascali. It develops linearly along the SS114 (State Road 114), which runs through it. The toponym is uncertain; the hypothesis has been put forward that Carrabba derives from the Latin CARRABILIS (‘carriageable’), due to the presence of Via Carrata, which was once the only access route to the sea and made the locality passable.
